 Celebrating the New Year

Confetti fills the sky at the New Year's Eve festivities in New York's Time's Square, US soldiers hug as they celebrate the arrival of 2009 during a New Year celebration at their camp in Kabul, Afghanistan, People set balloons free in the air to celebrate the New Year at Zojoji Buddhist temple in Tokyo,  Fireworks explode behind the quad Riga of Berlin's landmark Brandenburg Gate and over the Acropolis Hill in Athens, Greece, Fireworks light up the London skyline just after midnight in England, Five hundred thousand people braved freezing conditions to see in the New Year on the River Thames next to the London Eye observation wheel and Big Ben, The pre-midnight New Year's Eve fireworks based on the Aboriginal theme 'Creation Storm' explodes over Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. Over 1.5 million Sydney siders and tourists lined the harbor foreshores to watch the 120,000 pyrotechnics usher in the New Year.

Many of us probably weren’t at these gatherings last night though we watched them on the television or the internet and wished we could have celebrated the New Year like many of these people.  I went to a nice dinner with my husband and fell asleep way before midnight.  Boring I know.  I’m sure some of you went to a party, maybe had to work, and others were, asleep just like me.  Whatever you did and whoever you spent your New Years with, I hope it started off right.  Let’s mark today as a sweet moment for so many of us to start the New Year off right, with our hopes, dreams and goals right before our eyes.  And for all of you who are battling an illness, a devastating divorce, family issues, economic hardship, or any storm in your life, together let’s begin to have hope and peace.  Lets talk, share, laugh and morn about Life’s Bitter Sweet Moments.

“Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.” Oprah Winfrey

December 31, 2008

Well today is the last day of the 2008 calendar year.  Tonight so many of us will go into the new year with new goals, a fresh start and with a big bang.  Why do you think we make it such a priority to start over?  I think we look back over the past year at all the mistakes we have made and the things we didn’t get to accomplish. (this is where Oprah Winfrey’s quote applies)   We say, lets start the New Year off right and do all the things we didn’t get around to doing.  I decided to Google what the most popular resolutions were for this year and this is what I found.

Top Ten New Year’s Resolutions:

  1. Spend More Time with Family & Friends
  2. Fit in Fitness
  3. Tame the Bulge (weight loss)
  4. Quit Smoking
  5. Enjoy Life More
  6. Quit Drinking
  7. Get Out of Debt
  8. Learn Something New
  9. Help Others
  10. Get Organized

I have to say, all of these resolutions expect a few are on my list.  Do you have a list or do you think that it is a waste of time to write down things that you want to change but think you will never get around to doing it?  For me, I want to make that list!  I need a reminder of what is important to me.  And a reminder that even though life throws us curve balls, my list matters to me.  So, tonight I hope that you all can make that special list.  Call it whatever you like.  Make it about you and what’s most important to you.  Have a very safe and blessed New Year. And as the clock strikes 12am wherever you may be, I pray that life will bring you such a Sweet Moment to treasure, forever.

Cheers to a Start of Something New

Day One of my journey with my own Bitter Sweet Moments

I started this site about six months ago.  As I stated it, I sat back and thought about why I wanted to start a blog like this one.  I named it Bitter Sweet Moments and it was at that moment when I  thought I should  start a blog about life’s Bitter Sweet Moments.   I asked myself  alot of questions. Like... What would people think? Would it be worth my time, and would it reach out to anyone?  So, today I decided to just do it!  Make it about all those Bitter Sweet moments that we have in life.  Every day lets talk and share about what life brings our way.  Let’s not be afraid or scared but excited and happy. Let’s share with others our stories and thoughts about life’s Bitter Sweet Moments!
